THE FAMILY FARM: The historical heart of the family. Spanning 40,000 acres, this land has been in Emily and Marther's family for 9 generations, ever since their ancestor (a Colonel) received it as a reward for war in 1805. The land includes valleys, forests, lakes, and mountains, and still holds the ruins of an ancient medieval hunting lodge and a small mine. It is the site of the annual family vacation.

THE OFFICE: The setting for Emily's professional conflict. It's where she must balance her morning sickness and the stress from her boss, Katherine, while receiving support from her kind colleagues Olivia and Ava.

HOORIE SPA: An oasis of calm. Owned by the artist hoorie (a story character) and her assistant Linda. This is where the girls go to relax, get massages, have their nails done, and escape the routine.

Animals of the World: Emily personal mare, a 13 year old Friesian. She is black with small white flecks "Like an Aurora." During the "Farm Vacation" story, she is 4/5 months pregnant. Her favorite food is carrots.

EMILY

The pillar of the family: We see her through two maternity journeys. first with her twins, Sam and Noah, and later with little Snowbell. Her story begins with an unexpected one night stand pregnancy, which she hated at first but grew to love. We follow her from a well deserved spa day to a hospitalization for anemia, and we watch her fight hostility at work as she earns a promotion to manager.Pet: She owns Aurora, a 13 year old mare.

MEGAN

Strength and resilience: We first meet her as Rebecca's best friend. Her story is an arc of overcoming adversity: she becomes pregnant at 16, is kicked out of her home by her parents, and finds a new home with Marther, Damian, and Rebecca. Her journey takes her from melancholy to acceptance, determined to be a great mother to her twins.Future: She plans to work at a daycare while developing her passion for writing children's stories.

MARTHER

The sister, the anchor: She is Emily's older sister and Rebecca's mother. Having been a teen mom herself, she is the foundational pillar of support for Megan. Her home is the family's central hub.Fact: She met her partner, Damian, through Charlie (Emily's partner), as Charlie and Marther were in the same class.

REBECCA

The kind-hearted niece: Daughter of Marther and Damian. She is Megan best friend and her main emotional support, staying by her side through her entire labor

The "bad apple" of the office: She is Emily's boss who, driven by professional jealousy, makes life difficult for her during her pregnancy, but is ultimately demoted.
